The US city of San Francisco is investigating a complaint about the placing of beds in Twitter’s offices. That would be a possible violation of building regulations. New Twitter owner Elon Musk reacts with anger.

Several media recently reported that some meeting rooms in the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco have been converted into dormitories. Even washing machines and wardrobes would have been installed.

After a Twitter user reported the matter to the city’s customer service via the social medium, an investigation has begun. If – as local media write – a permit has not been applied for to convert commercial space into residential use, it could be a violation of the city’s building regulations, it sounds.

Musk angry

Now that a large part of the employees have been laid off, less meeting space is needed. In addition, the placement of beds would suit the “hardcore” long-hour work culture that the world’s richest man Elon Musk demands of the remaining Twitter workforce.

Musk reacted angrily to the investigation. “So the city of San Francisco is attacking companies that provide beds for tired workers instead of ensuring children are safe from fentanyl,” he wrote on Twitter in an article about a baby who allegedly overdosed on a playground. “Where are your priorities, London Breed?!”

A spokesperson for Mayor Breed responded in a statement: “Our Department of Building Inspection is required to investigate complaints when they are submitted and determine whether any violations have occurred. It is a basic responsibility of the government.”

According to the spokesperson, Breed is “focused on running the city, including providing basic city services, such as ensuring departments respond to official complaints, and addressing our very real challenges, such as addressing the crisis caused by deadly fentanyl in our streets.”
