The former Grey's Anatomy star told his followers, "It is with a heavy heart and a sense of relief that I am announcing my early retirement from the entertainment industry today."

He further told followers that the film Corsicana will be the last project they will see him in.

"Just know that I will be posting a few pictures of my retirement shenanigans here and there, but until then. Be safe out there. Your loved ones love you and need you. SALUTE!" he concluded.

The actor played Dr. Preston Burke in the first three seasons of popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

In 2020, he joined streaming platform Fox Nation, on which he hosted Isaiah Washington Kitchen Talk.

In 2019, Washington explained in an interview why he chose to leave the Democratic Party and back then-President Donald Trump. “Walking away … is a sacrifice, it’s a risk, and there’s a penalty for it,” he said at the time. “The reason why I’ve chosen to walk away from the Democratic Party as I know it … is that something doesn’t feel right.”
