Elon Musk spotted with Jared Kushner at World Cup final

Billionaire Elon Musk was spotted at the World Cup final in Qatar with Trump White House senior adviser Jared Kushner.

Musk announced his presence in a tweet at the start of the highly anticipated match, which he then proceeded to live-tweet coverage of. The Tesla founder and new Twitter CEO was seated next to former President Donald Trump's son-in-law Kushner. Musk did not say whether the two attended the match together. Several Arab spectators were seated around them.

Musk and Kushner's relationship prior to the match is unknown. Musk famously had a social media spat with his father-in-law earlier this year.

Musk was also spotted interacting with people outside of his immediate vicinity. He reached down from his luxury box to greet other audience members in one video. In another, he was filmed shaking several people's hands.

Musk seemed to have a good time at the final, giving enthusiastic reactions on Twitter to many of the game's soon-to-be legendary plays.

"Duel in the Desert. Couldn’t ask for a better game. Incredible play by [Argentina] and [France]!!!!" he tweeted after the game's conclusion.

Argentina won its third World Cup trophy on Sunday, rocketed by star player Lionel Messi after a nail-biting penalty shootout.

Argentina triumphed over France in the World Cup final to become FIFA's 2022 victor in Qatar.

The victory for the South American nation is a stunning turnaround from its performance last month, when Saudi Arabia shocked the world by defeating it 2-1. The setback was short-lived, however, for the prestigious team, led by soccer legend Lionel Messi, who carried it to its first victory since 1986 and its third overall.

Argentina got off to a commanding start, scoring two goals before halftime. One of those goals was from Messi, while teammate Angel Di Maria scored in a play that New York Times reporter Rory Smith described as "pure poetry."

The tide of the game appeared to turn well into the second half, when French star Kylian Mbappe scored two goals in just 90 seconds.

The game went into overtime after two 45-minute halves, with the two teams tied at 2-2.

Messi regained Argentina's lead in overtime, scoring a goal at the 108-minute mark, only to be matched by Mbappe in the 118th minute. Mbappe became the second player in World Cup history to score a hat trick in a final.

Argentina finally took the crown after scoring four goals in a penalty shootout against France's two, with players Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni missing their shots.

Argentina's victory was met with ecstasy on the field and in Argentina. Jubilant fans celebrated the nation's first World Cup victory since 1986.

U.S. men's national team head coach Gregg Berhalter and captain Tyler Adams were hounded with pointed questions from Iranian journalists ahead of Tuesday's World Cup match against Iran.

Iran has been under severe scrutiny in the global competition due to the ongoing civil rights issues surrounding the country's women and girls.

“You say you support the Iranian people, but you're pronouncing our country's name wrong. Our country is named 'eee-ron,' not 'i-ran.' Once and for all, let's get this clear,” an Iranian journalist said.

He then asked Adams if he felt comfortable playing for the USMNT despite there being "so much discrimination against black people in his own borders."

The captain replied that “there's discrimination everywhere you go."

"One thing that I've learned, especially from living abroad in the past years and having to fit in in different cultures and kind of assimilate into different cultures, is that in the U.S., we're continuing to make progress every single day," he explained. "Growing up for me, I grew up in a white family with obviously an African American heritage and background as well."

Adams further lauded the progress being made in the United States.

When Berhalter was hit with questions on the state of geopolitics between the U.S. and Iran as well as inflation in his home country, he told reporters, “I don't know enough about politics. I'm a soccer coach.”

“And I'm not well versed on international politics, so I can't comment on that," he added.

The coach and captain maintained that their focus lies on the match against Iran on Tuesday.

Berhalter has further said the team had no part in recent posts from the U.S. Soccer Federation, which scrubbed the Islamic emblem from Iran's flag. "The players and the staff knew nothing about what was being posted," he said.

"Sometimes things are out of our control. We believe that it's going to be a match that the result will depend on who puts more effort in, who executes better on the field. And we're not focused on those outside things. All we can do on our behalf is apologize on behalf of the players and the staff, but it's not something that we are part of," he continued.

According to ESPN, Iran has since filed a complaint with FIFA's ethics committee.
