A new guaranteed income program in Massachusetts, which will give recipients monthly payments of $500, will begin accepting applications in just over three weeks.

The payments are intended to help households with at least one child and are being funded by a $22 million commitment from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Recipients selected for this program, which has been titled Rise Up Cambridge, will be given $500 once a month for 18 months, giving recipients a total of $9,000 overall.

SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: DIRECT PAYMENT WORTH $914 ARRIVES IN 25 DAYS

Applications for the program will open on June 1 and close on July 31, with applications being approved on a rolling basis.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must be a resident of Cambridge, be at least 18 years old, and have at least one person in their household under the age of 21. Additionally, the household must have an income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level.

The income for a household's eligibility varies depending on how many people live in a household. Households of two people will be eligible if they make no more than $49,300 a year, while households of three will be eligible if the annual income does not go over $62,150, with the income limit increasing slightly with every additional household member.

In addition to receiving the monthly payments, recipients can make additional money by participating in voluntary surveys or by documenting their experiences during the program. These surveys will be optional, but those who partake in them are expected to be compensated for the time spent on the surveys and documents.

The money recipients get from the monthly installments will not need to be reported as taxable income.

Additional information regarding this program can be found on the Rise Up Cambridge website.

In three days, a guaranteed income payment will be sent to 305 families in Sonoma County, California.

The Pathway to Income Equity pilot program selected 305 out of 6,450 applicants. To be eligible, applicants had to have at least one child under age 6, be affected in some way by the coronavirus pandemic, and have a household income of no more than 185% above the federal poverty level, according to the Sonoma County Administrator's Office.

TAX REFUNDS: PAYMENTS AVERAGING $893 FROM 2019 STILL WAITING TO BE CLAIMED

"These payments will help families with young children who are often struggling under the double burden of the high costs of housing and child care — typically the two highest household expenses," said Chris Coursey, the chairman of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.

"The information we gain from this pilot program will help shape future efforts to improve the health and welfare of our community," he added.

Officials said the payments are delivered on the third Wednesday of each month, which for this month will be April 19. The final payment for this program will be issued in December 2024.

Sonoma County officials will study what effect this additional monthly income has on reducing poverty and promoting economic mobility for families with young children, according to the Sonoma County Administrator's Office.

"Most of our selected recipients are already working — many working more than one job or more than 40 hours a week just to survive," said Angie Dillon-Shore, the director of the nonprofit group First 5 Sonoma County.

"This extra income will allow them to spend more time with their families, find a better job, or improve their financial well-being, resulting in better outcomes for their kids," she said.

The program accepted applications for the payments last year, and 6,450 applications were submitted online. Officials said that of all the applications, 2,383 met the eligibility requirements. The application period was from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31.

Residents of Sacramento, California, only have a couple days left to apply for a guaranteed income program that will give recipients $500 every month for a year.

The program, which is a partnership between the city and the nonprofit United Way, has already given 100 families in Sacramento County $300 every month since June 2021 and will select 80 applicants to receive this new $500 monthly payment. As part of this program, the California State University will conduct an evaluation on the experiences of participants who are receiving this money, according to United Way.

STIMULUS UPDATE: DIRECT PAYMENTS WORTH $500 FOR MORE THAN 300 FAMILIES TO BE SENT IN SEVEN DAYS

Applications for this program opened on March 15 and will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Friday.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must earn an income below certain limits regarding household size, with a household of one adult earning no more than $28,205 and a household of two earning $43,201; this income limit will go up slightly with every child a household has, regardless of whether the house has one or two adults. Additionally, applicants must have a residential address within Sacramento.

The first payment is set to go out to recipients on July 1.

Recipients of this program will also receive surveys from the California State University in Sacramento, the first of which is mandatory and the second and third being optional, with the second being issued at the end of the program and the third being issued six months after the program's end. However, applicants who complete these optional surveys will be given $25 for both surveys completed.

All 80 of these eligible recipients will be randomly selected among applicants. These applicants will be informed that they have been selected through email sometime between late April and early May.

In two weeks, recipients of the Chelsea Eats program in Chelsea, Massachusetts, will receive their next payment worth up to $400.

In total, 738 households are receiving payments ranging from $200 to $400 from this program, and the second of these payments will be issued on April 15. The payments will help Massachusetts residents buy food and pay their utility bills. The city distributed debit cards to recipients in early March, which is how recipients will receive this payment, a Chelsea city spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

TAX SEASON 2023: MISTAKES TO STEER CLEAR OF TO AVOID BEING AUDITED BY THE IRS

The amount people will receive from this payment will depend on the recipient's household size. A household of one will receive a payment of $200, a household of two will get $300, and any household with three or more people will receive a payment of $400.

The April payment will mark the second of three payments this program will provide to recipients via their debit cards. The first payment was issued on March 15, and the last one is planned for May.

For an applicant to be selected for this program, they had to have been a resident of Chelsea with a household income 30% less than the area median. For a household of one, that would be $29,450, and for a household of two, it would be $33,650. The income limit increases slightly for each additional person in a household.

This three-month program issues payments to recipients on the 15th of each month. After the third payment in May, there are no plans to continue the program, a spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

Additional information about this program can be found on Chelsea's webpage on COVID-19 emergency assistance programs.

A payment set to be issued by the end of the month will likely be the main attraction for residents of the Pine Tree State for the month of March.

The money from the Winter Energy Relief Payments, which received approval in January, will give all recipients who filed their 2021 taxes last year a payment of $450, all of which will be issued by March 31. These payments are part of a larger Emergency Winter Energy Relief Plan proposed by Gov. Janet Mills (D-ME) and approved by the state legislature as an emergency measure, and they will be given to around 880,000 eligible Maine residents, according to the governor's office.

JOBS, EDUCATION PLAN TO INVEST $15M AROUND THE STATE

“High energy prices have made staying warm more difficult for Maine families this winter," read a statement from Mills. "That’s why I proposed — and was pleased to sign — an emergency relief measure that quickly puts money back into the hands of Maine people."

Those who are eligible for this payment include anyone who filed a Maine income tax return as a full-year state resident for the 2021 tax year by Oct. 31 of last year. Moreover, filers must have reported a federal adjusted income for the 2021 tax year of less than $200,000 for those filing a married joint return, $150,000 for a person filing as a head of household, or $100,000 for a single person.

If two people filed a joint 2021 Maine individual income tax return and their combined federal adjusted income was less than $200,000, each person will receive the $450 payment.

Additional information regarding this payment can be found by visiting the governor's office.

Stimulus update: One-time direct tax rebate check worth $800 to go out in just 13 days

South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 tax returns will be starting the New Year off with a great financial start, thanks to a tax rebate that will give them up to $800.

The specific amount that recipients will receive from this payment will be based on their 2021 tax liability, which is defined as the amount left over after subtracting credits from the income tax they owe. For people whose tax liabilities are less than $800, their rebates will be equal to their tax liability, while filers with a tax liability equal to or over $800 will receive exactly $800, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

GAS PRICES DIP TO $3.18 A GALLON IN LOWEST LEVEL SINCE SEPTEMBER 2021

The money from this payment will be given in the same bank account that people received their 2021 refund. South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 SC1040 tax forms by Oct. 17 can expect to receive this rebate before Dec. 31.

For any recipients who want an idea of when they will receive their payment, they can do so by tracking their payments online. To do this, people will need either their Social Security number or the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from their SC1040 form to use the tracking site.

The Department of Revenue has capped the highest amount that people can receive from this rebate to $800, according to state legislation.

For people who have not yet filed their returns, the deadline is Feb. 15, 2023, after which recipients will receive their rebate in March 2023.

Stimulus Fail: How Pennsylvania's gambit to send out $2,000 checks faltered

As Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf prepares to hand off the baton to Josh Shapiro (D) in the coming weeks, he is opening up about his time in office, including his unsuccessful attempt to send out $2,000 stimulus checks to families.

Earlier this year, Wolf's administration reintroduced the so-called "PA Opportunity Plan," a $1.7 billion proposal he unveiled previously featuring $2,000 direct payments to households earning $80,000 or less, but the measure ultimately failed to clear the Republican-led state legislature.

NEW MEXICO STATE BASKETBALL TEAM SKIPPED TOWN WITH EVIDENCE FOLLOWING PLAYER-INVOLVED SHOOTING: REPORT

“The money would’ve come from federal funds, it was free money just send it out, and [Republicans] did not want to do that. But then after the budget passed and we had all this money I said here’s another opportunity instead of using federal money, let’s use state money. We had plenty it’s not like we had to raise anybody’s taxes," Wolf told ABC 27.

In addition to $2,000 checks, the PA Opportunity Plan also entailed $225 million in financial aid to small businesses, $325 million in healthcare funding, $450 million in conservation efforts, and $204 million for direct property tax relief, according to the news outlet.

Funding for the program would have derived from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that passed Congress and was signed into law by President Joe Biden last year. Funds given to states that are unused by Dec. 31, 2024, will have to be sent back to the federal government.

A plethora of states had enacted stimulus measures and rebates using money from budget surpluses or federal COVID-19 relief funds. Those measures were largely aimed at easing the toll of red-hot inflation gripping the nation and rising prices at the gas pump — both of which appear to have cooled off a bit in recent weeks.

“$2,000 would be a really nice help. I don’t know why I couldn’t get that done,” Wolf added, per ABC 27.

South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 tax returns will be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $800.

The amount a resident will receive from this rebate will be based on his or her 2021 tax liability. For people whose tax liability is less than $800, their rebate will be equal to their tax liability, while filers with a tax liability equal to or over $800 will receive exactly $800, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

Tax liability is defined as what is left after subtracting a filer's credits from the Individual Income Tax that they owe. The Department of Revenue has capped the highest amount that people can receive from this rebate to $800, according to state legislation.

TAXPAYERS FILING THEIR 2022 TAXES COULD BE IN FOR A 'REFUND SHOCK'

People who have filed their 2021 SC Individual Income Tax Return, or SC1040, by Oct. 17 will receive this rebate before the end of the year. Anyone who received a 2021 refund by direct deposit will receive this rebate in the same bank account.

Paper checks will be mailed out to people if they notified the department of a change in their banking information by Nov. 1, received their 2021 refund by debit card or paper check, got their 2021 refund by direct deposit to a prepaid or pay-as-you-go debit card, had a balance due and did not receive a refund, or received their 2021 refund using a tax preparer's account.

Rebates can be tracked online, though filers will need either their Social Security number or the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from their 2021 SC1040. Additionally, they will also need line 10 from the SC1040 card.

People who file their returns after Oct. 17 have until Feb. 15 of next year to file their returns to receive this rebate. They will then receive their rebate in March 2023.

Several states and cities are trying various solutions to provide relief to residents who are struggling with surging prices on nearly all products due to persistently high inflation.

Only nine days remain for eligible residents of Delaware to submit their applications for relief checks worth up to $300.

Thus far, the state has issued over 782,000 "relief rebates," but thousands more residents qualify for the disbursement, according to state officials. The 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program, signed by Delaware Gov. John Carney back in April, was projected to return $230 million to taxpayers.

WHY YOU SHOULD EXPECT MORE ECONOMIC PAIN

"If you've already been sent [a] check, you can contact our office and we can work with you to verify your identification and get the check forwarded to you, or you can pick it up in our offices,” Secretary of Finance Rick Geisenberger said, per Delaware Public Media.

“And if you've not been sent a check, you can apply if you meet the qualifications to apply for a rebate," he added.

Residents must have been 18 or older and living in the state on Dec. 31, 2021, to qualify and must not have previously received a check. Payments have already been distributed to residents who filed a 2020 Delaware income tax return.

For those who did not file a 2020 return, the state has created a pathway online via de.gov/rebate. Prospective applicants must provide Social Security numbers, valid Delaware residential mailing addresses, and identification cards or active driver’s licenses that were issued by Dec. 31, 2021.

A portal for the program opened at the beginning of November and will shutter at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30. No additional applications will be accepted once it closes, according to the state government.

Those who made less than $75,000 per year or joint filers who made less than $150,000 per year were eligible for the three government-issued stimulus checks of varying amounts. Most parents were eligible for the government's child tax credit, which distributed payments from July to December 2021, with the goal of the tax credit being to help people with children avoid financial problems and food insecurity.

Three waves of a total of $931 billion worth of stimulus checks were approved by Congress as part of relief for the coronavirus pandemic for nearly 165 million people in 2020 and 2021.

Two of the stimulus check payments were signed into law by then-President Donald Trump in 2020, and the final COVID-19 stimulus bill was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March 2021.
