President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden released their 2022 tax returns, showing a joint income of $579,514.

In a press release accompanying the release, the White House stressed the need for transparency and credited the president for releasing "the most tax returns of any president while in office."

"Today, the President and First Lady released their 2022 federal income tax return. With this release, President Biden has shared a total of 25 years of tax returns with the American public. Once again demonstrating his commitment to being transparent with the American people about the finances of the Commander-in-Chief, President Biden has released the most tax returns of any president while in office," the press release read.

The Bidens paid $169,820 in combined federal, Delaware, and Virginia income taxes, with an effective federal income tax rate of 23.8%. The White House also touted the charitable contributions the president and first lady made, with the couple contributing $20,180 to 20 different charities last year.

Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff released their tax returns as well, with a federal adjusted gross income of $456,918. They contributed $20,000 to charity.

Jill Biden to have skin lesion found above right eye removed next week

First lady Jill Biden will undergo a common outpatient surgery next week to have a skin lesion above her right eye removed and biopsied, the White House physician said in a letter Wednesday.

The discovery was made during a routine skin cancer screening for Biden, and the procedure will be done with caution at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Jan. 11, the letter said.

"We will offer an update after the procedure is completed, and we have more information," Dr. Kevin O'Connor said in the letter.

The procedure that will be done is called a Mohs surgery, which is considered the most effective technique for treating skin cancer, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Everything for the surgery happens while the patient waits, including lab work and the results. The patient is also numbed with a local anesthetic over the impacted area rather than anesthesia that would affect the person's full day.

Biden underwent a different outpatient procedure in April 2021 in what the White House claimed was a common medical procedure. The president went with her to an outpatient facility near George Washington University, but the couple returned a couple of hours later. The White House never revealed any further information on that procedure.

President Joe Biden welcomed President Emmanuel Macron of France to the White House for the first official state visit against a backdrop of the war in Ukraine, tensions over American trade subsidies, and China.

Invoking a “shared commitment to liberty” between the United States and France, Biden ticked through the challenges facing the two nations, including “facing down Vladimir Putin’s grasping ambition for conquest in Russia and his brutal war against Ukraine, which has once more shattered peace on the continent of Europe.”

Biden delivered his remarks from the White House South Lawn before hundreds of people.

"The Marseillaise" was performed alongside a 21-gun salute followed by "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the leaders greeted one another accompanied by their spouses.

Macron said he was “honored and moved” to be at the White House, outlining the history of U.S.-French relations and a friendship he described as “rooted through the ages.”

He also addressed the president and first lady Jill Biden as “Dear Joe, Dear Jill” while delivering his remarks on the collaborative efforts of both nations in Ukraine, on climate policy, and other global issues.

“As war returns to Europe … we need to become brothers in arms once more,” Macron said.

The trip is Macron’s second state visit to the U.S. since becoming president, the first taking place in April 2018 during the administration of former President Donald Trump.
