Ron Johnson fears Hunter Biden could get plea deal from DOJ and have records sealed from public

EXCLUSIVE — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is concerned that, despite any new findings about accusations against Hunter Biden, the Department of Justice will allow him to engage in a plea agreement and have his case records sealed.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is preparing to unveil new information on the Biden family's business ventures in a press conference on Wednesday. But even with the promise of new information, Johnson is not confident that the DOJ would take criminal activity by Hunter Biden or other family members seriously.

"The Justice Department will do whatever it can get away with doing in terms of covering up for Hunter Biden or minimizing any charges," the Wisconsin senator told the Washington Examiner in an exclusive interview.

"I've been concerned about this, almost predicting it, for quite some time that at some point in time, the Justice Department will do some kind of plea agreement with Hunter Biden. Part of that plea agreement would be a seal of all records so that the American public will never know the full extent of what Hunter Biden and possibly Joe Biden did," he said.

According to Johnson, he expects that Hunter Biden could "enter some plea agreement for some minor tax evasion charge or, you know, failure to file or something like that, and then do a plea agreement to seal the records and be done with it."

He then detailed his own experience with "corruption within the FBI, within the Department of Justice, within our intelligence community."

"We have been smeared," he said. "We've been given unsolicited intel briefings and then had those leaked for the purposes of smearing myself and Sen. [Chuck] Grassley. So, I know how these guys operate. I know the corruption."

Johnson explained that he believes most employees within those agencies have integrity and genuinely want to protect the country. However, he added that "there are actors, and unfortunately, I think quite a few actors, that are advocates of the Left, that are part of an effort to make sure that the Left dominates, that conservatives are destroyed, and they'll do just about anything you can to cover up for a Democrat president like President Biden."

The senator made it clear that he didn't enjoy investigating the president's son. He did so because "there was a much larger story. And there are much larger stakes at play here, as opposed to just showing his criminal activity."

"It is the complicity, the compliance, the corruption of a mainstream media that's covering up for the Bidens. There's the complicity, compliance, and corruption of individuals within our federal agencies that are also protecting them," he said.

On Sunday, Comer warned the DOJ not to issue any indictments for Hunter Biden until after the committee's press conference.

"My message to the Department of Justice is very loud and clear: Do not indict Hunter Biden before Wednesday," he said.

The Republican further touted that "the evidence that the House Oversight Committee will produce with respect to the web of LLCs, with respect to the number of adversarial countries that this family influence-peddled in."

According to him, it isn't just Hunter Biden. It's the "entire Biden family, including the president of the United States."

"So, we believe there are a whole lot of tips that the IRS and the DOJ don't know about because we don't believe they've done a whole lot of digging in this, and we have," he explained.

The press conference will take place at 9 a.m. EDT on Wednesday.

Asked about potential charges from the DOJ against Hunter Biden, the president said, "My son has done nothing wrong" in an interview last week.

"I trust him. I have faith in him. It impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him," Biden added.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) responded to criticism over his decision to subpoena the FBI over unclassified records detailing an alleged “criminal scheme” by then-Vice President Joe Biden, noting he’s “confident” the document exists and that he knows its contents.

In an interview with WHD News on Thursday, the top Republican told host Sean Hannity he knows what country and policy decision are at the center of the alleged scheme but that he “is not at liberty” to disclose the information publicly. His comments come two days after Comer subpoenaed FBI Director Christopher Wray, demanding access to an unclassified record detailing an illegal arrangement between Biden and a foreign national during the Obama administration.

Comer issued the subpoena in conjunction with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) on Wednesday, demanding access to an FBI-generated FD-1023 form they say details an exchange of money between Biden and a foreign national that may have influenced U.S. policy decisions. The two Republicans were tipped off about the document’s existence by a whistleblower, although it remains unclear what wrongdoing Biden is being accused of conducting.

An FBI spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner earlier this week that it received the subpoena and letter from the GOP lawmakers. The agency declined to comment further.

The subpoena is the latest development in House Republicans’ investigations into the president’s family and their business dealings, which became a focal point of their agenda after taking control of the lower chamber earlier this year. Many of these investigations have focused specifically on the president’s son Hunter.

The matter first took prominence during the 2020 election as the GOP sought to determine whether then-candidate Joe Biden benefited financially from his son’s transactions, pointing to national security concerns.

The Oversight Committee has made that a high priority in recent months, with Comer leading investigations into the Bidens’ business dealings “to determine if the Biden family has been targeted by foreign actors, if President Biden is compromised, and if there is a national security threat,” he wrote.

“The information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden allegedly engaged in a bribery scheme with a foreign national,” Comer said. “The American people need to know if President Biden sold out the United States of America to make money for himself. Sen. Grassley and I will seek the truth to ensure accountability for the American people.”

The panel has obtained thousands of documents detailing the family’s financial records and business transactions, including one report that showed the Bidens’ received more than $1 million from a Chinese company through a third party from 2015 to 2017.

Grassley has also raised concerns about political bias affecting high-level investigations at the FBI, particularly those that focus on the Biden family’s foreign business deals. However, those efforts have failed to garner much momentum in the Democratic-led Senate.

Hunter Biden has reportedly threatened to sue Roger Stone and even advance further legal action if Stone does not apologize for comments he made that Biden deems as "defamation."

Biden’s attorney Abbe David Lowell sent a cease and desist letter to Stone due to Stone's remarks on his Stone Zone podcast, where Lowell alleges the conservative commentator made "disparaging or false statements that would amount to defamation" of President Joe Biden's son, the Floridian reported.

Stone's comments, taking place during an episode titled "Garrett Ziegler and Tyler Nixon Expose Hunter Biden’s Dirty Secrets surrounded Hunter Biden's laptop," surround the contents of said laptop that the president's son left at a Delaware computer repair shop in April 2019.

"He actually transported via Amtrak ..three women from Boston to New York City in December of 2018 ..who were about 19 to 24 across State lines for sex," Garrett Ziegler, operator of the website MarcoPoloUSA.org, said.

The cease and desist letter accuses Stone of violating federal and Delaware state law by "hosting discussions with Garrett Ziegler about unverified personal data that you were told belonged to Mr. Biden and claiming Mr. Biden committed 'sex crimes.'"

"To avoid litigation, if possible, we write to provide you with an opportunity to mitigate the harm that your conduct and/or statements have caused Mr. Biden," the letter continued, demanding Stone return any data "purporting" to come from any anything belonging to Biden, publicly retract his "baseless" allegations of illegality, as well as issue an apology to Biden. Lowell's letter asked Stone to respond to the letter by March 31.

Even if not to Lowell himself, it didn't take Stone quite that long.

"Surprisingly, Hunter Biden’s extremely expensive high-powered lawyers have now sent me not only one, but two threatening letters, neither of one makes much sense," Stone told the Floridian.

"Everything I know about Hunter Biden’s laptop I read in the New York Post or Breitbart News or online at the Marco Polo USA Foundation, which has published all the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop. Everything I know is in the public domain and from public sources," the ally of former President Donald Trump continued. "Hunter Biden is a public figure under New York Times vs Sullivan. The laptop contents can be contained by any American. I will not be threatened into silence."

Just last week, Biden filed a counterclaim against the Delaware-based computer repairman who handled his laptop. The lawsuit, targeting John Paul Mac Isaac and a few of those he shared the laptop data with, alleges that the repairman improperly obtained and disseminated Biden's private information without his consent.

It was filed in response to an October 2019 defamation lawsuit from Isaac and others and represents Biden's greatest push yet against those who obtained the information found in his laptop that he left at a computer repair shop in the spring of 2019. The laptop became a hot-button topic just before the 2020 election.

Biden's suit calls for six counts to be raised against Isaac and several others with whom he shared the data: invasion of privacy by intrusion, invasion of privacy by publication of private facts/matters, conspiracy to invade privacy by intrusion, conspiracy to invade privacy by publication of private facts/matters, aiding and abetting an invasion of privacy by intrusion, and aiding and abetting intrusion of privacy by publication of private facts/matters. The first son is seeking a trial by jury.

Central to the countersuit's argument is a citation of Delaware law, allegedly saying that abandoned property cannot be considered another person's property until a period of one year, rather than 90 days, as Isaac alleged. It also says that the law holds that a procedure must be carried out through the courts to become a proper owner.

The data in the laptop was found to be 100% authentic, according to Konstantinos "Gus" Dimitrelos, commissioned by the Washington Examiner, a former Secret Service agent and cyber forensics expert. Hunter Biden has admitted that the laptop left at the shop belonged to him.

On Friday, journalist Matt Taibbi revealed that the FBI often flagged content for Twitter to review for content moderation purposes and underscored that there had been over 150 emails between the bureau and former Twitter trust and safety chief Yoel Roth between January 2020 to November 2022. At one point, Twitter executives had near weekly meetings with law enforcement officials, the journalist noted.

Newly anointed Twitter CEO Elon Musk has given sprawling internal Twitter access to Taibbi, journalist Bari Weiss, and author Michael Shellenberger, who have released the so-called Twitter Files outlining internal company deliberations on content moderation and key flashpoints such as the suspension of Trump's account following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

"This (the FBI’s wild and crazy relationship with Twitter) is absolutely a coordinated effort to change Election Results! It worked, but they got caught. This is why people protested in Washington. Earlier this week, Trump vowed to ban the federal government from "colluding with any organization" if he retakes the White House in 2024. He laid out a litany of measures he would pursue in a hypothetical second term as president to counter the concerns conservatives have raised about censorship in light of the Twitter Files.

His policy announcement, which came Thursday, was overshadowed by the debut of the Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection, in which his followers could pay $99 for a digital card bearing his likeness. Some of his closest allies, such as Steve Bannon, criticized the move. Nevertheless, the collection reportedly sold out and amassed $4.5 million.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk made good on his promise last week to drop new information about the company’s behind-the-scenes machinations about the suppression from 2020.

As House Republicans are preparing to take legal action against former Twitter lawyer James Baker, who was fired on Tuesday for his role in the suppression, Westwood said she wasn’t surprised that material that could be damaging to the social media platform was destroyed.

“Look at the lengths that Twitter executives were willing to go to suppress the Hunter Biden story. It was clear they wanted to take the story off the air,” she told host Maria Bartiromo, adding that it was Baker who was tasked with vetting information.

“This is sort of a sanitized version of the truth that we have so far,” Westwood said.

She also pointed out that Baker was closely allied with President Joe Biden and with Democrats.

They didn’t want any amplification of the story, so they went in search of justification that would allow them to suppress the story and “move the goalpost so many times,” when asked about the New York Post’s story, including making up false stories about the information being stolen, fake, or unable to be verified, Westwood explained.

The actions of Baker, who was also the person who pushed the Russia collusion “lie” during the 2020 election cycle, brought Republicans' fears to light and gave them weight.

“I think that's the frustrating thing for a lot of Republicans [and] conservatives watching this … this confirms what they had suspected all along about Twitter,” Westwood said.

“If you sort of expressed the view that Twitter was … in a partisan manner, suppressing this story to help Biden, that was sort of painted as a conspiracy theory and now we’re seeing hard evidence that that was true,” she added.

Mainstream media outlets lashed out at Musk and journalist Matt Taibbi, who was tasked with going through the so-called Twitter Files and providing analysis. When asked if it was surprising to see reporters attacking each other, Westwood said no.

“I think that a lot of the mainstream media reporters have no problem ‘eating their own’ if they cross the party line. And Matt Taibbi has been the target of that kind of criticism for a while,” she said.

“He’s someone who was a classically liberal writer for years and he sort of stayed in the center of the [liberalism],” Westwood told Fox host Joe Concha, adding that Taibbi has been a champion of freedom of speech and pushing back against the power of corporations.

“The rest of the Democratic Party sort of shifted to back elitism … [and] the consolidation of government power and corporate power in these really concerning ways like we’re seeing with Twitter,” she said.

Westwood gave examples such as Twitter colluding with the FBI and the Biden administration to suppress stories about COVID-19 and even Democrats who were unfavorable, calling the hypocrisy “unsurprising.”

“It’s not surprising to see people who hold themselves up to support free speech squashing [Taibbi’s] actual support of it,” she added.

After the release of the much-anticipated “Twitter Files,” several conservatives are lamenting what they call unfair censorship of voices on the Right while others say the report isn’t exactly the smoking gun they were hoping for.

The Twitter Files is a collection of documents and internal communications from inside the company that details the behind-the-scenes decision-making of some of the social media platform’s top executives to suppress news stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. Twitter CEO and billionaire Elon Musk has long teased the release of the report after taking control of the company in October as part of his pledge to increase transparency on the site.

Musk teased the release of the files early Friday, announcing that journalist Matt Taibbi would be rolling out the report’s findings at 5 p.m. EST. However, Twitter users were left waiting in anticipation as Musk announced a delay because the company was “double-checking some facts.”

Just after 6:30 p.m., Taibbi posted a lengthy Twitter thread with a comprehensive dump of the report’s findings that showed the company “took extraordinary steps to suppress the story, removing links and posting warnings that it may be ‘unsafe.’”

So I don’t know. I suspect that Elon Musk has been leaned on, and he’s kept a little bit of information in reserve."

Musk later announced on Saturday during a two-hour Twitter Spaces session that there would be a second information dump related to the Twitter Files and the company’s content moderation policies. It’s unclear whether Musk’s decision to release more files is in response to claims that he is withholding information, nor is it clear when the second information dump will take place.

Musk admitted his knowledge on the Twitter Files “is limited” as he has not read the report himself, but noted it seems to show “a very different standard applied to Republican candidates in the U.S. versus Democrat candidates.”

The CEO also hinted at “more smoking guns” that he wants to release to the public, but it’s not clear when that information will be released. However, he pledged that “the intent is to release all the files.”

Devine disputed those findings, claiming she had seen sworn affidavits from the former head of Twitter’s trust and safety that showed he had met with the FBI and other intelligence officials.

“They warned specifically of what they called a hack and leak operation, a dump of Russian disinformation,” Devine told Carlson.

This prompted the New York Post reporter to question whether Musk was influenced by government officials to keep some information under wraps.

“Is he holding something back or is it just that Facebook really was first out of the blocks to censor The New York Post and Twitter followed suit," she said. "So I don’t know. I suspect that Elon Musk has been leaned on and he’s kept a little bit of information in reserve."

Konstantinos "Gus" Dimitrelos, a cyber forensics expert commissioned by the Washington Examiner to examine the hard drive, retrieved the deleted files from unallocated space on the drive using a technique called data carving.

Roberts sued Biden in Arkansas for child support in 2019. She disclosed in court filings that his company paid her from May 2018 through November 2018, but the specific amounts were not publicly disclosed. Roberts added in the filing that "she never received a tax payment for these payments."

In the recovered files, Biden expressed shock that his company was doling out payments to Roberts after his assistant, Katie Dodge, texted him the records. He then ordered Dodge to "take Lunden off payroll."

Dodge said she couldn't remember that particular conversation, but she said she did remember being disappointed with Biden over his payments to Roberts.

"I remember a conversation where I was disappointed that you wanted to pay her the same rate as me," Dodge said. "But I am over that. Maybe she told you that but I wasn't involved."

Dodge also earned $1,500 from Owasco during the Nov. 16, 2018, pay period for 20 hours of work, according to the recovered payroll file.

"Regardless Katie [that] was if she was working a 40 hour week full time for me," Biden responded. "I haven't talked to Lunden in 7 months???????"

"Well take whatever I pay Lunden and get my s*** straightened out Katie," Biden added. "We need to completely abandon this old process and come [up] with a new one. New accounts new record keeping new everything."

Biden paid himself $10,000 from Owasco for the Nov. 16, 2018, pay period, the recovered file shows.

That Biden paid Roberts from May 2018 through November 2018 through Owasco is notable.

Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson published bank records showing the now-defunct Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC wired $1 million to Hudson West III, another firm owned by Biden, on Nov. 2, 2017. Hudson later transferred $1 million to Owasco on March 22, 2018.

CEFC wired the funds to Hudson about two months after Biden signed a $1 million attorney engagement letter to represent Patrick Ho, the deputy of CEFC's chairman at the time, Ye Jianming.

Ho was eventually sentenced to three years in prison in March 2019 for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and was deported to Hong Kong in June 2021 after serving his sentence. Ye has since disappeared in China after being named by state media in a 2018 corruption case. China allowed CEFC to go bankrupt.

An Arkansas judge ruled in January 2019 that a DNA paternity test proved Biden was the father of Roberts's child.

Biden and Roberts settled the child support case in March 2020. Biden agreed to pay an undisclosed monthly amount of child support and health insurance premiums, according to Courthouse News.

Other texts found on the copy of the laptop show Roberts was met with silence when she tried reaching out to him in the weeks before their baby was born.

"Just called to check in on you," Roberts texted Biden on July 3, 2018.

"Amoeba DD (Due Date) Sep 8, 2018 All Good," she texted him on July 24, 2018.

"Reached out a few times, it's clear you don't want to be reached," Roberts texted on Aug. 8, 2018. "Need to talk to you. If you feel the need to reach out, my line is always open. Hope all is well."

Roberts is mentioned in just one email on the laptop copy.

The manager of the House of Sweden, Biden's Washington, D.C., office building, accused him in a September 2017 email of violating building rules by sneaking Roberts in through the building's side doors after business hours.

Biden was incensed at the accusation. He responded to the manager in a previously reported lengthy email explaining that Roberts was his daughter Maisy's "basketball mentor."

"I had phoned ahead to let security know that my youngest daughter's basketball mentor she worked out with Maisy and Sasha Obama when they played in rec league together," Biden said. "Maisy, my daughter continues [to] pursue a NCAA Div. One team and Lunden continues to help. [Lunden] Roberts. Here is a partial bio."

Biden sent the email just one day after he had requested that the same manager create keys for his "office mates" — his father, Joe Biden, his mother, Jill Biden, his uncle, Jim Biden, and Gongwen Dong, the "emissary" of then-CEFC Chairman Ye.

Hunter Biden claimed to not remember ever having sex with Roberts in his 2021 memoir, Beautiful Things, in which he attempted to distance himself from her and his daughter.

Hunter Biden was married to Kathleen Biden from 1993 until their divorce in 2017, and their three daughters, Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy, are featured in the memoir. He has since remarried South African filmmaker Melissa Cohen. The two had a son, Beau, named after Hunter Biden's deceased brother, in March 2020.

“I’m not proud of it," he wrote of his dalliance with Roberts in his memoir. "It’s why I would later challenge in court the woman from Arkansas who had a baby in 2018 and claimed the child was mine — I had no recollection of our encounter. That’s how little connection I had with anyone.”

Hunter Biden's attorneys, Chris Clark and George Mesires, did not return a request for comment.

EXCLUSIVE — Hunter Biden paid a full-time salary to the exotic dancer with whom he fathered a child in 2018, according to deleted payroll files recovered from a copy of his abandoned laptop.

Lunden Roberts earned $1,500 for 40 hours of work from Biden's company, Owasco PC, on Nov. 16, 2018, according to a recovered payroll file obtained exclusively by Washington Examiner. Two other recovered files show Owasco spent an additional $521.37 to provide health, dental, and vision insurance coverage for Roberts for the same month.

The payroll records were part of a trove of 168,000 deleted files the Washington Examiner recovered from a copy of Biden's abandoned laptop. Konstantinos "Gus" Dimitrelos, a cyber forensics expert commissioned by the Washington Examiner to examine the hard drive, retrieved the deleted files from unallocated space on the drive using a technique called data carving.

Roberts sued Biden in Arkansas for child support in 2019. She disclosed in court filings that his company paid her from May 2018 through November 2018, but the specific amounts were not publicly disclosed. Roberts added in the filing that "she never received a tax payment for these payments."

In the recovered files, Biden expressed shock that his company was doling out payments to Roberts after his assistant, Katie Dodge, texted him the records. He then ordered Dodge to "take Lunden off payroll."

Biden severed Roberts from his company's payroll less than two months after she gave birth to his fourth child, Navy Joan Roberts, on Aug. 28, 2018,

"And is Lunden still [on] payroll???" Biden texted Dodge on Nov. 16, 2018. "Take Lunden off payroll I thought you said she decidedly [didn't] want to work and didn't need health insurance anyway. Remember that conversation?"

168,000 deleted files recovered from Hunter Biden's laptop

A cyber forensics expert commissioned by the Washington Examiner recovered over 168,000 deleted files from a copy of Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop.

Many of the deleted files were system files, application files, or duplicates of user files stored elsewhere on the laptop.

Some of the recovered data, however, shed light on his financial dealings in 2018 and early 2019, as well as his personal dealings during that time frame. Also recovered from the drive were deleted pictures of government ID cards for two individuals linked to President Joe Biden's son.

Konstantinos "Gus" Dimitrelos, a former Secret Service agent who has testified in over 100 classified, criminal, and civil matters, retrieved the deleted files from unallocated space on the hard drive using a technique called data carving.

The existence of recoverable deleted user files adds another layer of authenticity to the hard drive, Dimitrelos said.

"In order for user-created data — including personal photographs, bank records, invoices, business records, third-party data such as the driver's licenses of other persons, chat conversations, and medical records, as examples — to exist within the unallocated hard drive space, the computer user would have had to manually delete the files," Dimitrelos said. "Any Robert Hunter Biden recovered files in unallocated space was there as a result of deletions by the user ‘roberthunter.’"

Dimitrelos has examined the Washington Examiner's copy of the hard drive and determined with 100% certainty that Hunter Biden "was the only person responsible for the activity on this hard drive and all of its stored data."

Many of the recovered user files were attachments to text messages that Hunter Biden sent to or received from his associates. The text messages contain markers indicating that an attachment was deleted.

One of the recovered text attachments was a selfie he took in which he can be seen holding a vape pen. He attached the photo to a message sent to an unknown person Jan. 30, 2019.

"That's the weed vape pen that a Russian Escort left in my room before I came here this time," Hunter Biden texted them.

A report by Republican senators in 2020 concluded Hunter Biden paid “nonresident women” who were “nationals of Russia or other Eastern European countries” and who appeared to be linked to what records indicated was an “Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.”

Hunter Biden also received an invoice from his psychiatrist, former WHD News contributor Keith Ablow, showing he had racked up $13,600 worth of psychotherapy charges in November and December 2018. Hunter Biden had requested that Ablow send him the invoice in a Dec. 10, 2018, text.

Hunter Biden's legal team told CBS News in May that it obtained a laptop he left at Ablow's office in February 2019. It says the laptop is "the Rosetta Stone" that can prove if copies of Hunter Biden's drive that have circulated through the media have been altered. But the copy of the drive obtained by the Washington Examiner has user files dating through March 17, 2019.

Dimitrelos also recovered numerous deleted screenshots of text message conversations with Hunter Biden's ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle.

One of the screenshots shows that Hunter Biden wired $2,900 to Buhle through Apple Pay on April 19, 2018. He sent Buhle the screenshot later that day after she suggested he hadn't sent the payment.

Another recovered screenshot is a message from Buhle's phone showing that David Barboza of the New York Times had reached out and asked her: "I wonder if I can call you about a story I am writing about a Chinese company you may have heard about. I don't know that you know for sure. But someone suggested I ask you."

It's not clear exactly when Barboza contacted Buhle or when she forwarded the screenshot to Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden's lawyer George Mesires texted him Dec. 4, 2018, warning him Barboza had indicated to him that the New York Times would be running a story about his involvement with the now-defunct Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC in the coming days.

"No reference to Joe Biden specifically relative to CEFC's efforts," Mesires informed the president's son.

The New York Times published a December 2018 story, for which Barboza was a co-author, that focused on CEFC and its leader at the time, Ye Jianming. Buhle was not quoted in the article.

Hunter Biden was paid millions by CEFC as he attempted to work out business deals with them.

Tony Bobulinski, Hunter Biden's former business associate, released a separate trove of WhatsApp text messages in October 2020 not found on the laptop that show the pair discussing meetings involving Joe Biden and CEFC in May 2017. The president has denied ever speaking with his son about his overseas business dealings.

Hunter Biden was given a $1 million retainer to represent Ye's deputy, Patrick Ho, who was eventually sentenced to three years in prison in March 2019 for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Ho was deported to Hong Kong in June 2021 after serving his sentence.

Ye has since disappeared in China, and Chinese state-run media named him in an alleged corruption case in 2018. China allowed CEFC to go bankrupt.

Another recovered record shows Hunter Biden was notified by his assistant, Katie Dodge, that Bank of America had notified him on Feb. 4, 2019, that his scheduled credit card payment had been returned unpaid.

"Please give me a call to let me know how payments should proceed please," Dodge texted Hunter Biden on Feb. 14, 2019, after texting him the notice from Bank of America.

These files were recovered just over two months after former Steve Bannon adviser Jack Maxey claimed he had recovered "450 gigabytes of erased material" from his copy of the abandoned laptop. Dimitrelos said his recovery and analysis of deleted data is ongoing but that it would "not be possible" for 450 gigabytes of deleted files to be retrieved from the laptop, as the system was only capable of storing a maximum of 234 gigabytes in the user volume.

Not all deleted files on the drive were able to be recovered.

Among the more notable nonrecoverable deleted files was a screenshot Joe Biden texted his son March 6, 2019. Joe Biden was not yet president. The file name of the screenshot suggests it was taken from Signal, an encrypted messaging application. The father-son text exchange has been previously reported, but the attachment being unrecoverable is new.

"What would you like me to do. Dad," Joe Biden texted his son after sending the screenshot.

Hunter Biden then responded to his father with a lengthy text message about his falling out with his former business partner Eric Schwerin.

The next day, Joe Biden offered to help his son with his troubles with Schwerin.

"Can i help with Eric," he texted Hunter Biden. "I have absolutely no hesitancy."

The younger Biden responded, "I'll handle Eric."

Dimitrelos explained that the Signal file Joe Biden texted his son is not recoverable because it may have been overwritten by new data after deletion.

"There are many attachments, screenshots, and other identified files which are not recoverable," he said. "This is because unallocated space becomes free space for new files to be copied to, thus overwriting the previous file data."

Of the aforementioned ID cards, the first recovered was a picture of a woman holding up her California ID, showing she was slated to turn 21 in 2019.

The woman, Joanna Rush, texted the image to Hunter Biden on Nov. 22, 2018, less than two hours after he requested that she call him. Other text messages on the drive show Hunter Biden was engaged in a sexual relationship with Rush. She did not respond to a request for comment.

The second was a picture of the driver's license for Richard McCray, a Virginia Lyft driver who got in a car crash with Hunter Biden on Feb. 6, 2019. McCray had texted Hunter Biden a picture of his license as well as a picture of the Hertz vehicle incident report he had filled out after the accident. McCray declined to comment without personal confirmation from Hunter Biden that the reporter reaching out to him was who he said he was.

Hunter Biden's attorneys, Mesires and Chris Clark, did not return a request for comment.
