Almost 400 items from Colin Powell’s estate hit the auction block

Nearly 400 items from the estate of the late General Colin Powell are currently being auctioned in Virginia.

The auction is being conducted by the Potomack Company in Alexandria.

It is set to take place throughout the coming weeks, according to a report.

The former secretary of state died in October 2021 at 84.

Items featured in the auction range from mundane to significant, including military awards, medals, and a lightsaber gifted to Powell by George Lucas.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to America's Promise Alliance, where Powell was the former chairman, and the Colin Powell School at the City College of New York.

Florida metropolis votes down resolution to remove Accomplice statues

The Jacksonville, Florida, Metropolis Council voted 13-6 Tuesday to defeat a resolution that would have viewed the town get rid of all of its Confederate monuments.

At least $500,000 would have been allocated to clear away such controversial statues as the Daughters of the Confederacy monument and a pillar commemorating Confederate soldiers.

Roughly 88 people signed up to make public responses during the council conference, according to a report.

Whilst proponents of the measure argued the monuments are representative of racism, opponents argued they are portion of the city's background and should be preserved.
