Samsung launches Wallet, a platform for managing digital keys and identity documents

Samsung launched this Thursday Wallet, a platform that allows Galaxy users to organize digital keys, boarding passes, identification cards and other documents from a single mobile application.

Samsung Wallet offers users access to their payment cards, loyalty and membership cards, as well as Samsung Pass functionality, which securely stores passwords and verify the identity of users with your biometric data to log in to applications and services.

“Samsung Wallet brings a new level of convenience to everyday mobile devices, with a totally secure environment to store digital keys and much more,” Jeanie Han, executive vice president and head of the Samsung Wallet team for MX (Mobile eXperience) Business, said in a statement.

This new platform is also compatible with digital car keys on certain models of the BMW brand. These allow users to lock and unlock cars, as well as start their engines without the need for a physical key.

Samsung Wallet is protected by Samsung Knox defense-grade securitywhose protections include fingerprint recognition and encryption of sensitive data.

Together with Samsung Knox, information in Samsung Wallet is encrypted and stored in an isolated environment, called ‘Integrated Secure Element’, a tamper-proof chip that is resistant to digital and physical hacking.

On the other hand, the company has reported that this identity document storage platform takes advantage of an open Galaxy ecosystem by integrating with the brand’s remote control platform, SmartThings.

Finally, they have announced that Samsung Electronics will continue to expand the capabilities of this platform and work “closely” with its partners and developers.

Samsung Wallet is available from this Wednesday in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. To access it, Galaxy users they will need to open the Samsung Pay or Samsung Pass app on a compatible Samsung Pass device.

It should be remembered that the company launched another version of Wallet in 2013, then presented as its own payment system through mobile devices similar to Apple’s Passbook system.

This application allowed users to store and manage tickets for events, boarding passes or coupons through a single system, which was presented within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that year.
