A Virginia firefighter and mother of two boys died on Saturday when she "experienced a catastrophic incident" all through a swift drinking water rescue instruction, in accordance to officials. 

Alicia Monahan, 41, was instructing the training course in the North Carolina mountains when she tragically passed absent. It wasn't instantly apparent how the incident occurred. 

Monahan was an 11-year veteran of the Chesterfield County Fireplace Office and leaves at the rear of her fiancée and two sons.

Swift water rescue is a specialized self-discipline that trains rescuers to navigate circumstances in natural bodies of water and flood environments, according to the Nationwide Parks Assistance.
