Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation banning people from recording video inside eight toes of "law enforcement exercise" on Sunday.

The regulation classifies knowingly filming within 8 toes of officers as a course 3 misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, $500 in fines and up to a year in probation, according to Arizona law. The regulation suggests officers need to warn any one filming at the very least once right before they can be billed with a criminal offense.

The legislation defines police activity as any time legislation enforcement officers are conducting an arrest, questioning a suspicious individual, issuing a summons, managing an emotionally disturbed or disorderly individual who is exhibiting abnormal conduct, or imposing the legislation.

Critics argue the legislation could permit officers to just move towards any one filming them in order to lawfully halt the recording.
