A Rochester, New York, police officer died Thursday night and yet another officer was hurt just after they had been shot by a suspect when on responsibility in the northeast element of the town.

"This is a tragedy for our group," Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said, in accordance to WHAM-Television. "I'm asking Rochester to pray for these officers and their family members. Aspects of the shooting have not been unveiled.

Rochester is dealing with a surge in gun violence.

The station reported that 202 folks have been shot and 41 have been killed in the city this year – and 82% of the homicides associated guns.

Zeldin's tweet arrived just hrs right after a suspect attempted to assault the congressman and gubernatorial applicant although he was speaking on stage at a marketing campaign event in Perinton, New York. The suspect, David G. Jakubonis, was billed with felony next degree attempted assault. Jakubonis was unveiled on his possess recognizance, in accordance to the Monroe County Sheriff.
