The memory of a U.S. services member who was killed in the 2021 Kabul airport attack was honored at Disneyland on Monday – virtually a 12 months following he died. 

Maritime Lance Cpl. The ceremony – which has been a tradition at Disney vacation resort parks for decades – is held each day both at Disneyland and Walt Disney Globe Resort in Florida. 

Merola's ceremony was not the only time the Walt Disney Corporation honored the company members who died throughout the Afghanistan withdrawal. They held a equivalent Disneyland ceremony for Hunter Lopez, a 22-year outdated Marine, in September 2021.

"As we walked into Disneyland, the marching band was coming out on to Primary Road [U.S.A.] and commenced to participate in a Star Wars song," Hunter's mother Alicia explained to Disney Parks Weblog. "We really do not know if it was Disney magic or irrespective of whether it was Hunter, but either way it felt great being aware of he was there with us."
