Oklahoma soccer mentor Brent Venables claimed Monday previous assistant coach Cale Gundy examine the "racially charged" term "numerous occasions" and resigned over the weekend for the reason that "he is aware what he did was completely wrong."

Gundy resigned Sunday just after he examine a 'shameful and hurtful' term through a movie session. He stated he read through the word right after he picked up a player’s iPad after noticing he was distracted. He introduced his resignation Sunday night.

Joe Mixon was among the Sooners alumni who arrived out in assistance of Gundy, but Venables managed that Gundy’s resignation was the correct shift.

"Mentor Gundy resigned from the software due to the fact he is aware of what he did was mistaken. Gundy experienced been with the plan given that 1999. He claimed in his unique statement he was "horrified" by what he had performed.

Gundy is the brother of Mike Gundy, who coaches Oklahoma Condition. He was on the Sooners’ team for all of their 14 conference titles and the national championship period in 2000 under Bob Stoops.

He spent the past seven seasons coaching wide receivers after spending the previous 16 seasons coaching operating backs. He was amongst the holdovers when Venables took over in December 2021.
