Capitol Law enforcement arrest 80-yr-previous for bringing guns in the vicinity of Supreme Court docket

An elderly gentleman was arrested just after U.S. Capitol Police found a suspicious van packed with guns on Capitol grounds just minutes absent from the Supreme Court.

Officers discovered the white van at close to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday since it was illegally parked together the 100 block of East Capitol Road, Capitol Law enforcement claimed in a push launch.

The driver, recognized as 80-12 months-previous Tony Payne of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, instructed Capitol Police officers he had guns in the van, and a K-9 also “hit” on the motor vehicle, the assertion observed.

The driver, a different male, and a woman have been all detained all through the look for, and officers located two handguns and a shotgun within the van, Capitol Police said.

"The individuals told our investigators they have been right here to provide paperwork to the U.S. Supreme Court docket," the statement said. "A pipe and containers were being also identified in the van, so the USCP Harmful Incident Response Division did a complete lookup and cleared the van."

Payne has been charged with "40 U.S. Code § 5104 — Illegal actions — for bringing the weapons to Capitol Grounds," while the other two were being briefly detained but not arrested, Capitol Police explained.
