The England national team today reiterated their willingness to wear the “One Love” captain’s armband in tomorrow’s first game against Iran at the FIFA World Cup, but the final decision will be made before the match.

“We were clear. We want to wear the strip. I know that the Football Association of England is currently talking to the International Football Federation (FIFA). I’m sure that a decision will be made tomorrow before the match,” the captain of the English national team, Harry Kane, told reporters.

England have been part of the “One Love” initiative, along with other European teams, for team captains to wear a rainbow ribbon symbolizing diversity in support of the LGBT community.

That initiative was rejected by FIFA, with the assessment that it represents a veiled criticism of Qatar, the host country, according to its attitude towards respect for human rights.

FIFA, for its part, presented its strips with messages on ecology, society and discrimination on Saturday. FIFA offered captain’s armbands with the slogans “Save the Planet”, “Education for All” or “No to Discrimination”.

For now, of the several captains of the national team behind the “One Love” initiative, only the Frenchman Igo Loris has given up wearing that armband.

The match between England and Iran will be played on Monday at 2 p.m.
