Stimulus update: Delaware deadline to claim $300 direct tax rebate checks nine days away

Only nine days remain for eligible residents of Delaware to submit their applications for relief checks worth up to $300.

Thus far, the state has issued over 782,000 "relief rebates," but thousands more residents qualify for the disbursement, according to state officials. The 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program, signed by Delaware Gov. John Carney back in April, was projected to return $230 million to taxpayers.

"If you've already been sent [a] check, you can contact our office and we can work with you to verify your identification and get the check forwarded to you, or you can pick it up in our offices,” Secretary of Finance Rick Geisenberger said, per Delaware Public Media.

“And if you've not been sent a check, you can apply if you meet the qualifications to apply for a rebate," he added.

Residents must have been 18 or older and living in the state on Dec. 31, 2021, to qualify and must not have previously received a check. Payments have already been distributed to residents who filed a 2020 Delaware income tax return.

For those who did not file a 2020 return, the state has created a pathway online via de.gov/rebate. Prospective applicants must provide Social Security numbers, valid Delaware residential mailing addresses, and identification cards or active driver’s licenses that were issued by Dec. 31, 2021.

A portal for the program opened at the beginning of November and will shutter at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30. No additional applications will be accepted once it closes, according to the state government.
