In another development inside the cultural organization of which he was already a member and which oversees the LaLiga Genuine Santander league, former soccer player and manager Clemente Villaverde has been named the next president of the LaLiga FOUNDATION for the ensuing four years.

The appointment of Clemente Villaverde Huelga (Cangas de Ons, Asturias, 1959) as the new president of the institution for a term of four years was formalized by the LaLiga FOUNDATION yesterday, according to LaLiga.

They emphasize Clemente Villaverde’s extensive professional career in LaLiga—first vice-president from 2013 to 2021—and in the LaLiga FOUNDATION, to which he was connected during the past ten years as a member and then as vice-president of the Board of Trustees.

Villaverde, a law graduate of the Complutense University of Madrid, spent 29 years of his professional life working for Atlético de Madrid as a director or manager. He also served as general manager of Getafe CF during the 2020–21 season.

When it came to his athletic abilities, Villaverde excelled as a professional footballer. From 1981 to 1990, he spent a total of 10 seasons in the First Division with Atlético de Madrid, where he won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He also spent time with Málaga Club de Ftbol, where his career came to an end.

The LaLiga FOUNDATION stated that the new president would be “directly linked to the calendar of operations of the organization, whose lines of activity are oriented at education, training, social inclusion, and strategic management of SR and sustainability.”
