Although the economic crisis is scratching at society, it has not yet found its way to film director Lars von Trier.

At least not if one is to judge by the recently published accounts of von Trier’s company Element Film ApS. Here, the 66-year-old ‘Riget’ creator enters the new year with a nice profit on the bottom line.

The annual report shows that the year’s earnings from the production of films and TV combined with income from capital shares in associated companies and financial income gives a result of approximately DKK 3.6 million, when expenses for example wages are deducted.

The fine result means that von Trier has been able to pay himself a dividend of DKK 57,400. He has also paid wages to the company’s one employee, who must be presumed to be himself, for 1.1 million kroner.

The money tank is growing
And the millionaire party does not stop at the salary payment.

Von Trier has also been able to further pad the already abundant cash tank in the company, so that there are worse times.

Thus, the equity in Element Film ApS has grown from DKK 45.7 million to DKK 49.3 million during the last financial year, which covers the last half of 2021 and the first half of 2022.

2022 was also the year in which Lars von Trier returned with the sequel to the iconic TV series ‘Riget’, as he premiered ‘Riget: Exodus’ earlier this autumn.

Unfortunately, Lars von Trier could also announce to the public in 2022 that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
