The Palestinian Center for Political Studies, in collaboration with the Ramallah branch of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, conducted a public opinion poll that showed that the majority of residents of the Palestinian Authority prefer Hamas over Fatah. The survey was conducted on December 7-10, 2022.

So, for example, when answering the question “Whom would you vote for in the presidential elections if they were held now?” only 36% named Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas (the current PA chairman) and 54% named Ismail Haniyya, head of the Hamas politburo.

At the same time, more than three-quarters of the poll participants said that Abbas should leave his “presidential” post and announce new elections, and only if he wins the elections can he continue to hold this post. 73% are dissatisfied with the activities of Abbas at the present time.

69% of respondents support the call for an early general parliamentary and presidential elections in the Palestinian Authority (West Bank and Gaza Strip).

At the same time, 78% believe that the government of Muhammad al-Shtayeh will fail to achieve reconciliation and hold legislative and presidential elections in the West Bank and Gaza.

81% of respondents believe that corruption flourishes in the institutions of the Palestinian Authority.

More than 70% support the creation of armed brigades, such as the “Lion’s Den” in Nablus, which do not obey the orders of the Palestinian Authority and are not part of the official security forces.

The vast majority (87%) say that the Palestinian Authority has no right to arrest “resistance” in the West Bank, preventing their actions against the Israelis.

The poll also showed growing opposition in the PA to the so-called “two-state solution for two peoples,” Safa news agency reported.
