Martinique international Jean-Manuel Nedra (29) was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. The professional is said to have had over 100 kilos of cocaine in his suitcase. This was confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office in Bobigny, reports the French newspaper “ The Parisian“.

Accordingly, the midfielder of the Aiglon du Lamentin club was accompanied by his girlfriend. She was also initially arrested.

The couple was brought before an examining magistrate. Nedra is now in custody. His partner was temporarily released under judicial supervision, it is said.

The Aiglon du Lamentin club also commented on the arrest in a short message. It states: “Without knowing the degree of his involvement, we have learned that one of our players has been arrested in Roissy for drug smuggling.”

The association appeals: “Let’s stick together stronger than ever to continue our educational work through sport, to fight this scourge and to protect our young people and to warn them of the risks, consequences and undesirable developments in this environment.”

Nedra made his debut in the national team from the Caribbean island of Martinique in 2012. Among other things, he was in action in 2017 at the Gold Cup, where the countries of North and Central America and the Caribbean play their champions. At the time of his arrest, the player is said to have been traveling privately.

A former soccer star was also arrested last December for cocaine smuggling. Dusan Petkovic (48) was caught in Amsterdam with 115 kilos of cocaine.

The Dutch prosecutor’s office said that Europol, in cooperation with the Serbian police, was able to bust a large drug ring. Eight people were arrested, including Petkovic, according to the Serbian newspaper Blic.

Petkovic is currently the sporting director at Serbian club OFK Belgrade.

Between 2001 and 2003 Petkovic played for VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Nürnberg. His almost World Cup participation in 2006 is legendary. He was called up to the Serbia and Montenegro squad to replace the injured Mirko Vucinic, but withdrew from the squad at short notice. The reason: His father Ilija Petkovic was national coach at the time, so there was a lot of media criticism of the nomination.
