After a long back and forth, the investor’s preferred candidate is now the new coach of TSV 1860 Munich. The 60-year-old Italian Maurizio Jacobacci, who mainly worked as a coach in Switzerland, for example at FC Schaffhausen, FC Sion and AC Bellinzona, was selected by sports director Günther Gorenzel and is to take over from next week. First reported the picture newspaper, the personnel coincides with SZ information. Most recently, Jacobacci worked in Tunisia for almost two months at the ambitious CS Sfaxien, where he was released at the beginning of February due to a lack of success.

It is surprising that sporting director Günther Gorenzel chose Jacobacci: since he fired Michael Köllner and took over the coaching position himself on an interim basis, he was no longer well liked by the representatives of investor Hasan Ismaik, who even called for his dismissal at times. Gorenzel was unable to implement any of his own suggestions for coaching, such as Achim Beierlorzer (previously at RB Leipzig), because the supervisory board only approved a relatively small budget increase. But it is probably sufficient for Jacobacci’s employment until the end of the season.

Gorenzel could have hired another coach with the approved budget. Linking a budget increase to a personal item is already ruled out by the 50+1 rule. However, if the sports director is of the opinion that the Jacobacci proposed by the investor is the best solution within the budget provided – albeit a very creative one for the third division – the 50+1 course does not contradict that.

Gorenzel cannot rely on the will of the supervisory board – finding a trainer is formally the responsibility of the management. After the game in Halle, he emphasized that he “sounded out the market, had a lot of talks, and worked on it until late last night.” The result was apparently the decision for Jacobacci. And the other shareholder, the eV, doesn’t seem to want to escalate the dispute over the coaching position any longer.

Now Jacobacci has to find his way quickly in Giesing and the third division – the gap between the lions and the promotion relegation place was still only five points after Saturday’s games. The Italian faces a difficult task – and many fans should have a difficult time with him simply because he was suggested by investors.
