Josip Juranovic (27) only joined from Celtic Glasgow at the end of January Union. But the right-back has long since arrived in Köpenick. And already has big goals in mind.

Juranovic: “It’s going great. I can explore the city. I finally found an apartment.” With Croatia he finished third in the World Cup in Qatar (6 appearances). At Union he has played five competitive games and one goal (against Ajax).

Now he hopes to play with Union in the premier class, just like he did with his former club Celtic. Juranovic: “I’m fighting for the Champions League here. I’ve played there before and would love to do it again. We are now third.”

His personal goal for the season: “I want to hear the Champions League anthem here soon.”

He also fled a bit from Glasgow because Celtic signed the Canadian Alistair Johnston (24/ CF Montreal) for his position in January. Juranovic feared fewer chances for the national team if he played less at the club. He says: “I’m a bit sad that Celtic haven’t tried to keep me.”

At Union, his position opponent is Christopher Trimmel (36). Both alternate regularly. Juranovic can live with that, he says.

“I didn’t expect to always play more than 90 minutes,” said the Croatian. “I have to adapt first. Christopher is the captain and a great person. We understand each other. It’s good to have two defenders who can take turns.”

Coach Urs Fischer (57) is also happy. He says: “I’m spoiled for choice. It always has something to do with the opponent. The boys know.”
