WATCH: Jim Jordan says the Left wants Donald Trump mugshot for political distraction

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) blasted the timing of Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pursuit of an indictment against former President Donald Trump, saying it is “driven by political considerations” and meant to distract from other crises facing the United States.

“[Bragg] only now is taking the case and bringing the case forward because of what?” Jordan rhetorically asked while speaking on Jesse Watters Primetime. “Because Donald Trump announced he is running for president and winning in every single poll. This is political and the country sees it for what it is.”

Jordan said Democrats want a mugshot photo of Donald Trump.

“They want that picture,” Jordan noted. “This is where the Left wants to go. It’s all about politics. Everything they do is driven by political considerations and that’s what is frustrating so many Americans.”

The Ohio Republican called it “dangerous” and indicative of the Left pursuing criminal charges against those deemed political opponents, including parents at school board meetings and Catholics who stand up against abortion.

“If they can do it to a president, they can do it to anybody, and they are. That’s the scary thing,” Jordan said.

“When you see that the Department of Homeland Security was going to set up a disinformation governance board because some agency can tell you what is appropriate speech and what isn’t,” Jordan added. “You have got to be kidding me! We have a thing called the First Amendment. It’s all driven by politics. All about advancing their narrative.”

The Republican congressman also noted that Bragg’s case against Trump has failed to pan out before.

Amid the threat of an indictment, support for Trump’s 2024 White House bid is growing.

A new Morning Consult poll showed Trump leading Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) 54% to 26%, a 28 percentage point advantage.
