Yanis Varoufakis’ nose broken (61)!

The former Greek finance minister was beaten up by a mob in Athens. This is reported by local media.

Accordingly, the 61-year-old was eating in a restaurant on Friday evening. The 20 or so thugs spotted Varoufakis through the windows and initially insulted him from the street.

Varoufakis fired himself

The economist then went to the door, where several hooded men attacked him, threw him to the ground, kicked and slapped him in the face. With a broken nose, Yanis Varoufakis was taken to hospital where he received treatment. After a splint was placed on him, the victim released himself against medical advice.

The politician thanked Twitter for the wave of solidarity. Varoufakis also denied reports that the attackers were autonomists, anarchists or leftists.

Rather, it was “commissioned thugs” who accused him of selling Greece abroad during the debt crisis of 2015 during his tenure as finance minister. His current party Mera25 described the “cowardly attack” in a press statement as “fascist”. Varoufakis now sits in Parliament as a traditional MP.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou (66) stressed that “violence has no place in our democracy. It is everyone’s responsibility to preserve our political culture.” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis (55) wrote: “The attack is absolutely reprehensible and cannot be tolerated.”

Varoufakis wanted Grexit

Yanis Varoufakis became known during the Greek crisis as an opponent of Chancellor Angela Merkel (68) and Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble (80). The then member of the radical left-wing Syriza government wanted to get the reeling country out of the euro. The Grexit failed.

Lastly, Varoufakis prophesied: “If you are a German or a Greek worker or a middle-class person, unfortunately you will pay and pay and pay…”
