Twenty-one folks have been killed after a fireplace broke out within the east wing of the inpatient division of a hospital in China’s capital Beijing, the Beijing Every day reported on Tuesday.

The hearth broke out at round 12:57 p.m.(0457 GMT) and was extinguished at round 13:33 p.m. after an emergency crew rushed to the scene of the accident in Beijing’s Changfeng Hospital, in line with the Beijing Every day.

A complete of 71 folks have been evacuated and transferred after the rescue work. As of 6 p.m. (1000 GMT), 21 had died after being transferred to hospital for therapy, the Beijing Every day reported.

“It is tragic. I can see the accident from the window of my home. Lots of people have been standing on the air-con unit at midday, and a few even jumped off,” stated a Weibo netizen.

Hospital fires are uncommon in China, and the reason for the blaze remains to be being investigated.
