Liverpool football coach Jürgen Klopp said that his team played the best game of the season, in the victory against Leeds, 6:1 in the Premier League.

Last night at Elland Road, Liverpool had seven shots on target and scored six, and Klopp believes it was his team’s best game, even though they had more convincing victories during the season, against Bournemouth 9:0 and Manchester United 7:0.

“I’m really happy with the game. We forced them into a lot of mistakes, we scored some sensational goals, the counter-attacking play was the best in, I’d say, decades. The best part was in the 92nd minute four players chasing the poor guy for the ball. I think that this is the best game we have shown this season, in different aspects,” Klopp told Sky.

Liverpool is not having a good season, the team is currently eighth and is fighting for one of the places leading to European competitions this season.

In the 2020/2021 season, Liverpool secured participation in the Champions League at the end by winning 26 points out of 30.

“The problem compared to that season is that now the teams in front of us have moved on. I don’t know where we will finish, but they will be played after this season and we need all the games to understand. The games are super important. If we don’t do anything this season, then we have to build on the good games from this last part of the season,” said Klopp.

“I have no idea if we can get close, but I don’t think it is too important. I would like to see a team with the same desire, passion and understanding that we showed against Leeds,” added the German coach.

In the last round, Liverpool lost to Arsenal 0:2, but won a point despite Mohamed Salah’s missed penalty.

“To play good football you need stability. You get stability from the defense, but when you are in this kind of negative flow, if I may say so, then you make the wrong decisions. I can’t explain why our counterattack didn’t work in the previous games , but against Liverpool it clicked. It clicked in the second half against Arsenal,” said Klopp.

Leeds suffered their 16th defeat and are fighting for survival as they are two points away from the relegation zone.

“It’s difficult to accept the game, but also the result (against Liverpool). We lost our composure during the game. Maybe the first goal opened the game, maybe it was handballed, but we have to improve for the next match. There is only one way, and that is to we are working hard and trying to improve,” Leeds coach Javi Garcia said.
