DeSantis hits again at 'DC Republican' Tim Scott over Florida slavery curriculum: 'Speak the truth'

Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hit again at fellow White Residence contender Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., on Friday right after the latter criticized Florida's new college background curriculum and its method to training about slavery.

"I think aspect of the explanation our region has struggled is because D.C. Republicans all much too normally accept wrong narratives, take lies that are perpetrated by the left," DeSantis said in the course of a campaign halt. "And to take the lie that Kamala Harris has been perpetrating even when that has been debunked – that is not the way you do it." 

"The way you do it, the way you guide is to combat back again against the lies, is to speak the reality. So I am listed here defending my point out of Florida from wrong accusations and against lies. And we’re going to continue to communicate the fact," he added.

On Thursday, Scott called for DeSantis to make clear how Florida teaches students about slavery following the governor defended the state's new curriculum from identical criticism by Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla. 

"There is no silver lining in slavery," Scott said. "The fact is, nearly anything you can study that — any added benefits that people suggest you had all through slavery, you would've experienced as a cost-free person. What slavery was, was seriously about separating families, about mutilating people and even raping their wives. It was just devastating."

"I would hope that just about every human being in our state, and undoubtedly functioning for president, would enjoy that," he extra.

The criticism from Scott and Donalds joins that from Vice President Kamala Harris and remaining-wing media stores professing Florida's curriculum teaches learners that slaves in the U.S. "benefited from slavery" — an accusation which DeSantis' administration has fiercely denied. 

Their criticism also breaks with the substantial range of conservatives who've rejected the left's narrative on the new curriculum, which was approved by the Florida Section of Education and learning very last week, and states, "Instruction includes how slaves formulated capabilities which, in some scenarios, could be applied for their personalized gain." 

Multiple Black students assisted construct the new curriculum.
