Two-time PGA Tour winner J.T. Poston was likely for broke at the 3M Open up this past weekend. Sadly, his bold perform value him an more $260,000.

"I experienced to attempt and give it a shot and see if there was some way I could make 3 there at the end and set some stress on Lee," Poston stated.

His very first shot landed in the danger zone, but in its place of laying it up, Poston determined to just take his odds and go for the green – 214 yards above the h2o.

His boldness backfired, and the ball was just shorter, hitting a rock and ricocheting backward off the floating match symbol ahead of inevitably splashing in the water. His fifth shot rolled down the slope on the front of the environmentally friendly, and he overshot his initial putt to finish the par-5 with a triple bogey.

"We’re not coming here to finish second," Poston said right after the spherical. "I indicate, at the stop of the working day, we’re striving to do a little something distinctive and try and acquire."

"I wouldn’t want to be sleeping tonight, thinking "what if" if I had just laid it up instead of seeking to go for it. So, no regrets on the choice. You know, tried to do what we could to win."

Alternatively of a solo next-place end that would have awarded him $850,000, Poston completed tied for next with Martin Laird and Kevin Streelman – all earning $590,200 each individual.

But the weekend did pay out off in yet another way for Poston.

He entered the week in 60th position in the FedEx Cup standings and shot up to 38th.
