Myanmar’s navy authorities prolonged the state of emergency for one more six months till January 31, dashing hopes that a common election shall be held this 12 months.

The Nationwide Defence and Safety Council accredited the emergency extension, Main Normal Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the junta, mentioned.

Navy chief Min Aung Hlaing had initially mentioned an election could be held in August as a part of the regime’s pledge at hand over management after seizing energy in a coup in 2021 that toppled the civilian authorities led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

The transfer comes as battle continues to rage throughout the nation whereas the financial system is grappling with inflation and lack of dollars.

Current studies mentioned the junta plans to shift Suu Kyi’s sentence to a home arrest.
